In a departure from her works in watercolor, Karen entered a pen and ink drawing in the 2002 logo contest for the 8th Annual Migratory Bird Celebration. Thousands attended the event at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Karen's winning entry of a pine warbler graced the celebration's brochure cover, t-shirts, pins, and advertisements.
